Naomi Jo Skinner Nowak, 85, of Panama City, FL, formerly of Iuka, MS, passed peacefully surrounded by her family, June 22, 2021, in Panama City, FL. Born in Iuka, MS, on November 30, 1935, to Paul and Robbie Skinner, she was the loving mother of Patricia, Kit, Dale, and David, and the loving wife of Thomas Nowak. Naomi Jo followed Wheeler around the world during his Air Force career, including to Georgia, Texas, Montana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Germany, and Iran. She enjoyed the travel and learning about different cultures. She attended classes at the University of Tehran to learn to speak and write Farsi. She earned an Associate Degree in real estate from Vernon Regional Jr. College in Wichita Falls, TX. She was a bookkeeper for J. C. Penney in both Albany, GA, and Wichita Falls, TX. Besides taking care of her family, her hobbies included painting, gardening, and fishing. Naomi and Tom enjoyed many years fishing together on Yellow Creek. She was a member of Iuka Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Carson of Panama City, FL, Kit Carson (Linda) of Freeport, FL, Dale Carson (Deborah) of La Jolla, CA, David Carson (Linda) of Warner Robins, GA, and Stanley Nowak (Juli) of Myrtle Beach, SC; eleven grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Skinner (1989) and Robbie Skinner (2007); her brother, Paul Flake Skinner (2016); the father of her children, Wheeler W. Carson, Sr. (1988); and her loving husband, Thomas J. Nowak (2013).
Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 10, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Interment will follow in Cypress Grove Cemetery.
