Marshall Leroy Dean, 90, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Friday, June 25, 2021, at his residence. Leroy was born in Iuka to Marshall Major Dean and Georgie Ann Bishop Dean. He was a member of Iuka United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the Iuka Lodge #94 F&AM. He attended Central Elementary School and graduated from Iuka High School in 1950. He then attended Northeast Junior College and then served in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following the war, Leroy graduated from Florence State College in 1956. He started his career with Weaver Pants Corporation from 1956 – 1959, and then M. W. Kellogg Construction Co. in Counce, TN, and Cherokee, AL from 1959 – 1962. He then continued his career with U. S. Agri-Chemicals from 1962 – 1986. Leroy loved his city and was elected and served as Iuka alderman from 1977 – 1997 during the time of Tenn-Tom and Yellow Creek Nuclear Plant construction. Some of Leroy’s past community involvement was as director of the Iuka Head Start Program, treasurer for the first re-enactment of the Battle of Iuka, treasurer of Iuka Heritage Day for many years, past-director for the Jaycees, the American Legion, and the Tishomingo County Development Foundation, president of Vertagreen Credit Union, and past-director and president of Muscle Shoals Chapter of Credit Unions. After retirement, he spent many happy days with his best buddy, Sarge. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Major Dean and Georgie Ann Bishop Dean; three sisters, Lorene Dean, Evelyn Luttrell, and Reba Stevenson; and two brothers, Horace Dean and Bruce Dean. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 27, at Iuka United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Harrell Moore and Dr. Leonard Pratt. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Kenny Carson, John Castleberry, Cliff Daniel, Scotty Skinner, Steve Jackson, and Dale Hester. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry McDaniel, the former Iuka Aldermen, and the members of the Iuka United Methodist Church Men’s Sunday School Class. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Memorials may be made to the Iuka United Methodist Church.
