Joe Barlow

Dr. Joe Ray Barlow, 83, of Iuka, MS, died Thursday, August 23, 2018, at his residence. Dr. Barlow was a U. S. Army veteran and achieved the rank of Captain serving as the dentist for the Guard Sentinels of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. He was also a long-time local dentist, serving the Iuka area for 42 years. Joe attended Corinth High School for two years prior to transferring and graduating from Columbia Military School in Columbia, TN. He then attended the University of Tennessee and earned a Doctor of Dental Science degree. Dr. Barlow was a long-time member of the Iuka Rotary Club and received the distinction of Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a former member of the American Dental Association, and was a former president of the Iuka Country Club. Joe was a big Tennessee Volunteer football fan. He loved traveling, as well as boating and spending time on the water. He is survived by his wife, Jean Akins Barlow of Iuka; two daughters, Diana Barlow Cosby (Harry) of Tupelo, and Rachel Barlow Adelman (Matt) of Austin, TX; one sister, Betty Barlow Agee of Memphis, TN; four grandchildren, Cole Cosby, Grier Cosby, Sean Adelman, and Audrey Adelman; his favorite sister-in-law, Barbara Akins Aldred of Hoover, AL; and a special friend, Mike Borden of Iuka. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Jewel Hodge Barlow. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 26, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Rev. Prentiss “Bud” Gordon, D. Min., Jason Aldred, and Dr. Justin Aldred. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Iuka Families First Resource Center Angel Tree Program, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
