James Browning, 89, of Tishomingo, MS, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Methodist Olive Branch Hospital. He was born December 28, 1927 to H.A. “Bud” and Daisy Browning. He graduated from Tishomingo High School, and attended Northeast Mississippi Community College. He worked as a Grade A dairy farmer. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a 32 nd Degree Mason. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was an active member of Tishomingo United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, studying the Bible, attending gospel singings, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Tishomingo United Methodist Church. It will be officiated by Rev. Steve Kennedy. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow in Tishomingo Cemetery with Masonic rites. Pallbearers include Bill Yarbrough, Larry Cox, Richard Pharr, Michael Floyd, Neil Edmondson, and Tim Cox. Tulon Rushing and Wayne Gray will serve as honorary bearers. Visitation is scheduled for 5 until 8 PM on Friday, September 15 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived his wife of 69 years, Earlene Southward Browning; his daughter, Tricia Bates (Bill); two grandsons, Alexander James Bates and Matthew Browning Bates; two sisters, Ruth Starkey and Eloise Dover (Sonny); one brother, Joe Browning (Deb); one brother in law, H.O. Southward (Carolyn); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Howard Browning and Harold Arthur “Red” Browning; and his in laws, Herbert and Ora Southward.
