Illene South, 84, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Mrs. South was a member of the New Salem community and New Salem Baptist Church for over 65 years. She was retired from Ripley Screen in Iuka. She was a strong and determined woman who spent much of her time caring for others. She lived for her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed taking care of her dogs, Bonnie and Clyde. Mrs. South enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing, as well as helping others in her community. She is survived by two sons, Maxey South (Robin) and Marvin South (Sharon); two sisters, Imogene Parsons and Dianne Studdard; four grandchildren, Nathan South (Hannah), Erin Davis (Garrett), Luke South, and Jacob South; six great-grandchildren, Gabriel South, Bridgette South, Gabe Davis, Raiden Davis, Trinity Davis, and Silas Davis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Estle South; her parents, Charles F. and Mary Lee Russell Moore; a sister, Martha Old; two brothers, William Howard Moore and Charlie Moore, Jr.; three brothers-in-law, Odell Parsons, Jimmy Studdard, and Tom Old; and a grandson-in-law, A. J. Lovins. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 27, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Sheldon Lambert and Bro. Franky Smith. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery. Pallbearers include Nathan South, Jacob South, Luke South, Terry Parsons, William Old, and Garrett Davis. Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Monday. Memorials may be made to the New Salem Cemetery Fund or the American Heart Association.
