George Tucker “Tuck” Russell, 85, died on Monday, August 15, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. Tuck loved working in his yard and gardening. He was an avid Mississippi State University fan and enjoyed studying history. Tuck knew Jesus as his Savior and Lord. He enjoyed volunteering with Eight Days of Hope and was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church where he was active with the youth and was known as “the world’s oldest teenager.” He enjoyed going to camps with the youth, being a member of the choir, and a Sunday School Teacher. He also served as a Deacon and a Gideon. Tuck was instrumental in the building of the Tenn-Tom Waterway. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University and then worked as a Civil Engineer. After graduating from Mississippi State, he moved to Little Rock, AR, to take his first job with the Corps of Engineers. He then moved his family to Wilmington, NC, to work on various navigational channel projects in the Southeast. He took his last post in Atlanta, GA, retired after 33 years, and continued to serve with NARFE. Following retirement, Tuck relocated back home to Iuka where he enjoyed his last 22 years with his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jo Tedford Russell; his son, John Russell (Amy); his daughter, Vickie Lynn Russell; his grandchildren, Matthew Tucker Russell, and Madison Jane Russell; his brother, Jim Tillman Russell (Yvonne); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two infant brothers. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS, is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Services are scheduled for Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11:00 am at Iuka Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. Johnny Hancock. Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ramsey, Gary Bullard, Randall Harbin, Phillip Graves, Ronnie Stricklen, Wesley Stricklen, Earl Walker, and Dustin Yarber.
