Florence Lambert

Florence Russo Lambert, 93, a loving, caring soul, passed away January 2, 2024, at the Tishomingo Community Living Center in Iuka, Mississippi. Ms. Florence was born August 2, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to Peligreno and Carmella Russo, originally from Naples, Italy. Florence graduated from Lucy Flower High School in 1948. She then began working at Nabisco Co., where she met, and would later marry, Ray Lambert, a Mississippi boy who moved to Chicago with his family. Following a brief romance, Florence and Ray married on August 21, 1948. After living in Chicago for a few years, they moved to Burnsville, MS, in 1960, Ray’s childhood hometown. Florence began working at Genesco Shoe Co. in 1960 and remained there until her retirement in 1995. She loved working at Genesco and made many friends while there. Always known for her kindness and generosity, Ms. Florence was loved by everyone who had the privilege to know her. She was well known for her spaghetti and meatballs and often made them for her family and friends. Ms. Florence was a member of Antioch Freewill Baptist Church in Burnsville, MS.

Those left behind to cherish the memories are her three children, Sharon Briggs of Burnsville, MS, Wanda Green (Jerry) of Ripley, MS, and Greg Lambert (Joy) of Tupelo, MS. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Sandy Robinson (Megan), Shane Green (Laura), Tracey Robinson, Haley Green, and Jordan Briggs (Kimberly); 11 great-grandchildren, Josh Robinson (Tabitha), Tanner Robinson (Holly), Reagan Murry (Weston), Kinsley Robinson, Storm Robinson, Georgia Rainn Robinson, Alex Green, Sam Green, Zoe Green, Kipptyn Briggs, and Jillian Briggs; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, several brothers and sisters, and her in-laws.

The family wanted to issue a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Tishomingo Community Living Center for their many years of taking care of and loving their mother. She loved them too. Also, a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, who lovingly cared for her during her final days.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Sandy Robinson, Shane Green, and Jordan Briggs, and her great-grandsons, Storm Robinson, Sam Green, and Kipptyn Briggs. Officiating will be Bro. Tanner Robinson, great-grandson of Ms. Florence.
