Dr. Bobby King, 85, of Florence, AL passed away on Sunday May 3, 2020. Raised on a farm in Yocona, MS, Bobby developed the desire to be a physician. He attended University of Mississippi and University of Mississippi Medical School where, due to his unbelievable intellect, he graduated early at the age of 23. He moved to Iuka, MS where he practiced medicine for 31 years and was a beloved pillar of the community. Whether in his office or on any of his house calls, Dr. Bobby was well known for his wide smile, hearty laugh, and hands of healing.
Dr. King had many other accomplishments later in his medical career such as advanced ER Trauma training and practice, as well as a prolonged stint practicing medicine at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. His business interests were varied and widespread; from co-starting the First American National Bank in Iuka, to owning an airplane dealership in Tennessee. If asked what some of his proudest accomplishments would be, Dr. King would laugh and say it was a tie between training his beloved bird dog, Radar, and winning the blue ribbon for his hogs at the 4H contest at the LaFayette County Fair.
Adored by his family, Dr. King was known as a source of encouragement and wisdom. He led his family with a quiet strength, and they loved him loudly in return. His gentle, fun-loving ways will be greatly missed.
Dr. King is survived by his wife, Glenda Foote King; his daughters, Cindy King Phillips (Gary) and Susan Hopkins; his son, Micky King (Vicky) ; his step daughter, Tracy Northcutt (David); his step son, Charles Milligan (Cheryl); his sister, Nell Green (Delain); his grandchildren, Jennifer Patel, Jessica King, Katherine Vinson, Laura Waldrop, Olivia Gosa, Michael Hopkins, Caroline Hopkins; his step grandchildren, Ellie Northcutt, John Northcutt, Ben Northcutt, and Anna Northcutt; several great grandchildren; and a host of friends. A private family service will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Oak Grove Cemetery, officiated by Bro. Johnny Hancock. A public memorial service will be held on a later date.
