Charles Winford Burns

Charles Winford Burns Passed away on August 2, 2020 at Tishomingo Manor in Iuka.  Charles was born July 15, 1924 in Maud, Alabama.  Charles was a graduate of Auburn University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and served as a County Extension Agent for Lauderdale and Jefferson Counties, Alabama for 32 years.  After his retirement, Charles moved to Tishomingo County, Mississippi where he raised registered Angus Cattle. Charles was a long time member of the Florence Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a member of the Spring Hill Methodist Church after moving to Tishomingo County and was a dedicated Elder and Sunday School teacher.   He also initiated providing animals for live Nativity scenes at Christmas time at both churches for many years.  Charles went on many mission trips to Colombia, El Salvador, Haiti and South Dakota. He was also active in the Kairos Ministry of Hamilton, Alabama teaching the Bible to inmates. Charles served in the Merchant Marine during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. Charles is survived by daughters Charlotte Burns of Dallas, TX and Ruth Anne Claxton of Anderson, Alabama and a brother, J.B. Burns of Maud, Alabama. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. A reflection service in memory of Charles will be Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 3pm at Burns Cemetery in Maud, AL. Visitation will be from 2 - 3pm, Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Burns Cemetery. Burial will be in Burns Cemetery. An online guestbook may be accessed at www.cutshallfuneralhome.com .
