Carl M. "Sonny" Holloway

Carl Max “Sonny” Holloway, 77, of Cherokee, AL, formerly of Tishomingo, MS, died Monday, April 9, 2018, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. Mr. Holloway was born September 24, 1940 in Waterloo, AL, and at age six moved to Crump, TN. He was the ninth of ten children born to George Washington Holloway and Della Maud Wren Holloway Beckham. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps at age 18 and served three tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, Sonny was self-employed as a roofer, worked 16 years at Tyrone Hydraulics, and also at Hoover Stone. His favorite hobby was serving the Lord through bluegrass gospel music, being a part of two gospel groups for 33 years. Sonny was also an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Mhoontown United Methodist Church in Cherokee, AL and enjoyed serving the Lord through his music ministry with his wife, Ruby. Sonny loved all animals, especially his dogs Cricket, Sallie, Missy, and Squirt. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, officiated by Bro. Mac Lindley and Bro. Rodney Windham. Interment will follow in Palestine Cemetery. Pallbearers include Stephen Crane, David Crane, Adam Humphries, Nathan Humphries, Edward Tucker, Kenny Hill, and Joel Crane. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Ben Kitchens, Chester Patrick, Tim Harris, John Bailey, Keith Hood, Johnny Brown, Kirk Brown, Steve Pope, Jackie Collum, Ronnie Askew, Owen Brown, Roger Brown, John Brown, and Jimmy Robinson. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, at the Iuka Church of God. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Brown Smith Holloway of Cherokee, AL; two daughters, Peggy Sue Bailey (John) of Dennis and Delenda Lou Tucker (Edward) of Tupelo; a sister, Peggy Sue Baker of Jackson, TN; four grandchildren, Stephen Crane (Melissa), David Crane (Katie), Stephanie Humphries (Adam), and Lisa Blackard; eight great-grandchildren, Brooke, Joel, Nathan, Ava, Anderson, Kellan, Hank, and Adele; two very special friends, Chester and Janice Patrick of Iuka; and a very special dog, Squirt. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Artie Blanche Sharp Holloway; his parents; and eight siblings, John Duren, I. D., Louverna, Lucille, Daisy, Nell, Faye, and Clyde.
