Basil W. Smith, Jr., of Corinth, Mississippi, died Saturday, September 25, 2021, at his residence. Basil retired from Aqua Yacht Harbor in Iuka following 30 years of employment. He was a locksmith, a knife maker, poet, and artist. He also served in the U. S. Navy Reserve. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ava Loyce Smith of Corinth; his sister, Kathy Y. Franks of Arthur, IL; two step-sons, Richie Askew and Rusty Askew, both of Corinth; two step-daughters, Lori Scott of Hillsboro, OR, and Gena Black of Corinth; two granddaughters, Anna Whirley of Iuka, and Hannah Smith of Corinth; five great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Teresa Choate Smith of Corinth, Joyce DePriest and Frieda Robertson, both of Murfreesboro, TN, and Ruth True of Nashville, TN; and one brother-in-law Wayne Hilliard of Corinth. He was preceded in death by parents, Basil W. Smith, Sr. and Elva L. Smith; his late wife and mother of his children, Anna Jean Choate Smith; two sons, Timothy Joel Smith and Basil Steven Smith; two brothers, Roger Dale Smith and Samuel Smith; his father and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Louise Hilliard; and a brother-in-law, Ricky Franks, Sr. of Arthur, IL. Cutshall Funeral Home of Glen, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Glen, officiated by Rev. Nelson Hight and Rev. Ginger Holland. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jonathan Whirley, Kevin Melson, Christopher Askew, Nick Monroe, Landon Monroe, and Tyson Harmon. Honorary pallbearers include Terry Harmon, Sr., Adrian Essary, and Mike Tyler. Visitation is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Sunday.
