Allen C. Osborn

February 14, 1935 — April 13, 2019

Bro. Allen Cecil Osborn, 84, of Glen, MS died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. Bro. Osborn was a lifelong resident of North Mississippi, born on February 14, 1935, to Elmer “Joe” and Flora (Lambert) Osborn.

A skilled tradesman, he retired from King Manufacturing in 1998. But his true life’s calling was to be a country preacher. He left school in eighth grade to help support his family, but despite his limited formal learning, his knowledge of scripture surpassed many Biblical scholars. He shared this understanding with congregations across North Mississippi at revivals and as pastor, most recently retiring from Hubbard Salem Baptist Church where he served for 31 years. His 64-year ministry concluded on March 17, 2019, when he preached his last sermon, but his legacy of faith will continue with those who knew and loved him.

Bro. Osborn shared his gift of music by singing and playing the guitar with his son and grandchildren and to audiences at home and in the community. His harmonica was in his pocket, always ready for an impromptu sing along. He was a fisherman, a farmer, a father and friend. He greatly loved his family, often pulling worn photos from his wallet, to share with friends and strangers alike.

Bro. Osborn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Strickland Osborn and four children, Donna Reynolds, Savannah, TN; Jo Ann (Anthony) Henry, Saint Clair, MO; Audie (Joni) Osborn, Glen, MS; and Allison (Brad) Beggs, Lafayette, IN.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Coby Henry, Saint Clair, MO; Adam (Sarah) Reynolds, Lexington, TN; Aaron (Danelle) Henry, Jefferson City, MO; Amber Reynolds, Savannah, TN; Blake Meadows, Santa Fe, NM; Jeremy (Hillary) Osborn, Belleville, MI; and Sam Osborn, Nashville, TN; five great-grandchildren, Blaine Dace, Calvin Henry, Kyley Henry, Aaron Henry, Jr. and Brantley Henry; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clarence Davis, a sister, Betty Gober, an infant granddaughter, Emerson Osborn, and an infant grandson.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 5pm until 9pm, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Glen, MS.
