John H. "Johnny" Biggs

John H. “Johnny” Biggs passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka, Mississippi. Johnny was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church and was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Biggs began his career in the printing business when he went to work at the Vidette in 1953 as foreman and pressman for then owner and publisher, E.C. Holtsford. He later bought the Vidette in 1969 which became the Tishomingo County News on November 16, 1969. Mr. Biggs also served the City of Iuka as mayor and city judge from January 1, 1968 until July 1, 1977, and July 1, 1981 until July 1, 1989. He was the longest serving mayor of Iuka. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Iuka United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Kerry Powell and Jerry Long. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2017, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. The body will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at the Iuka United Methodist Church. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Pallbearers include Derrick Tapp, Jon Tapp, Glenn Tapp, Nick Tapp, John Dennis Daugherty, and Gary Biggs. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Biggs, Larry Biggs, Dale Tapp, and Chris Daugherty. He is survived by his daughter, Charlotte McVay (Jimmy) of Iuka; his sister, Mary Louise Biggs of Iuka; his grandchildren, Hayley Franks and Brandy Dodd (Chris); and his great grandchildren, Kurtis Franks, Leigha Brown, and Charlotte Dodd.
