George William Cutshall, Sr., 91, of Iuka, MS, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. After graduating from high school, George served in the United States Navy during World War II as a signalman aboard a LST in the Pacific, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Upon returning from service, George worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. where he met and married his wife of 68 years, Peggy Cutshall. They returned home to Iuka at the request of his grandfather, George Washington Cutshall, to work in the family funeral home. He graduated from John A. Gupton College mortuary school in Nashville, TN, and with great pride served as mortician at Cutshall Funeral Home from 1948 until he retired in 2004. Because of his love of Tishomingo County and his desire to serve others, he held three different political offices: Tishomingo County Coroner, Sheriff, and Mayor of Iuka. He was an active member of Iuka United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 8, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Rev. Kerry Powell. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Trey Cutshall, Jason, Cutshall, Alan Cutshall, Bryan Robinson, Tyler Cutshall, and Hogan Cutshall. Honorary pallbearers include Cooper Lowrey, Dylan Robinson, Will Cutshall, Hilton “Popcorn” Moore, and Mack Wilemon. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 7, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Mr. Cutshall is survived by his wife, Peggy of Iuka; two sons, Larry Cutshall (Janice) and Charlie Cutshall (Pam), both of Iuka; two sisters, Mary Leone Davis of Iuka, and Ola Mae Hobart of Memphis; six beloved grandchildren, Trey Cutshall (Dena) of Ringgold, GA, Jason Cutshall (Tricia) of Iuka, Tiffany Lowrey of Iuka, MS, Cassie Robinson (Bryan) of Iuka, Alan Cutshall (Brittney) of Iuka, and Jenna Cutshall of Memphis, TN; and eight great-grandchildren, Hogan and Chloe Cutshall, Cassidy and Cooper Lowrey, Lila Kate and Will Cutshall, and Tyler Cutshall and Dylan Robinson. George was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Otha Hudson Cutshall; his son, George William “Butch” Cutshall, Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Austin Lowrey.
