Frances Ryals Terry

Frances Ryals Terry, 93, formerly of Money, MS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Frances was born on July 30, 1923, in Greenville, MS, to Philip Morgan Ryals & Sara Frances Woods Ryals.

Frances grew up in Hollandale, MS, and graduated from Delta State Teachers College, receiving the first B.S. degree that Delta State awarded. Mrs. Terry taught mathematics at Shaw, Boyle, Minter City and Sunnyside, MS. She also served as math supervisor for Leflore County Schools until her retirement in 1985. She was a charter member of the Mississippi Council of Mathematics and served as its President in 1977. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Greenwood, MS.

After retirement, Frances and her husband spent most of their time tending to their cattle farm and collecting and selling antiques. Frances also enjoyed reading, crafts, needle work and watching sports. Frances, a most-kind and gracious southern lady, never lost her passion for teaching and continued to tutor students well after her retirement.

Mrs. Terry was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harold Edwin Terry; a brother, Sam Ryals of Birmingham, AL; and a sister Margie Gerrard of Cary, MS.

She is survived by two sons, Henry Morgan Terry (Carolyn) of Iuka, MS, and Sam Diggs Terry (Charlotte) of Spruce Pine, AL; three granddaughters, Morgan Terry Willis (Jonathan) of McCalla, AL; Lauren Terry of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Brooke Terry of Madison, AL; three sisters, Zulene Harris of Cary, MS, Martha “Polly” Matlock of Olive Branch, MS, and Phyllis McDaniel of Starkville, MS; and many nieces and nephews.

Frances was also blessed to have Barbara Keister as her caretaker, companion, and friend since her move to Iuka.

Local visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS. Visitation will also be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a service at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2017, at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood, MS. Burial will follow at Acona Cemetery in Holmes County.

Pallbearers include Steve Ryals, Tommy McDaniel, Ben Matlock, Kris Lange, Thomas Roberts and Clay Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Acona Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Crystal Andrews, 34965 Hwy 430, Coila, MS 38923. Arrangements are by Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS.
