Billy H Gurley, 88, passed away at Carrington House in Iuka after a long bout with old age and a brief illness. Born in Dorsey on October 11, 1927, to the late Curtis Gurley and Stella Naomi Crawford Gurley, he enlisted during WW2 and fought in the Korean War, later serving in Japan and Italy with frequent tours stateside in El Paso, Texas. He retired a Master Sergeant of the Air Defense Branch of the U. S. Army. He was married to the late Ruby Lovelace Gurley. After retirement, he resided in Florida and became the resident tour guide for the children and grandchildren to Disney World and other points of interest. Visitation is scheduled for 11 AM until 1 PM on Friday, October 7 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Services are scheduled for 1 PM on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel and will be officiated by Bro. Phil Dawson. Interment will follow with military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery. Survivors include his sisters, Betty Gurley Young, Mary Evelyn Wheeler; his children, Billy Gurley and Emily Green; the late Freda Harris and David Harris, stepchildren and their grandchildren; his grandchildren - Jason Gurley, Michele Cost, Donnis Hackney, Neil Green; and many beloved great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dad was a story teller and could spin yarns with the best which is a big deal for these parts. He was a member of the Hardeeā€™s coffee club for a good number of years. Although a world traveler, his favorite place was Iuka and Tishomingo County. He loved his family and friends. The family wishes to thank his friends and staff at Carrington House. They loved him and cared for him with compassion and unbounded service.
