Tommy Pounders

Tommy Pounders, 69, of Tishomingo, Mississippi, died Saturday, May 7, 2016, at his residence. He was a Christian, and a member of Tishomingo United Methodist Church. He worked at Pennsylvania Tire in Tupelo for several years. He then worked at and retired from LTV/Maverick/Tenaris Steel in Counce, TN after 32 years. He was a lifelong fisherman, and loved spending time on the Tennessee River and local creeks. He was a gardener and a farmer. He loved growing just about anything, especially onions, tomatoes, and peppers. He has a true and generous heart, and one of his greatest pleasures in life was sharing his vegetables with friends and family. He loved animals, whether it was a newborn baby calf that needed assistance, or one of his many dog and cat friends. He enjoyed gospel singing, and enjoyed attending the Paradise United Methodist Church 4th Friday Night singing. He never came across a stranger, and his passing creates a void that will be felt by many. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 AM on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Steve Kennedy. Interment will follow in Tishomingo Cemetery. Pallbearers include Michael Floyd, George Gresham, Dannie Wright, Thomas Curry, Ray Qualls, Tommy Joe Floyd, Steve Thorne, and Brian Southward. Honorary bearers will be Geral Nunley, Johnny Hendrix, and the former employees of LTV/Maverick/Tenaris Steel Company. Visitation is scheduled for 4 until 9 PM on Monday, May 9 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Pounders of Tishomingo, MS; 1 daughter – Dr. Melissa Pounders of Tishomingo, MS; 1 sister in law – Shirley Loader of Tishomingo, MS; one niece, Elizabeth Floyd and husband Michael of Tishomingo, MS: one nephew, Gregory Pounders of Dennis, MS; one great niece, Taylor Floyd of Tishomingo, MS: one great nephew, Justin Pounders of Dennis, MS: and very special family friends, Tommy Joe, Stacy, and Cassie Floyd of Tishomingo, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge and Avoe Pounders; his mother and father in law, Mattie Faye and Otha Edmondson; one brother, Jimmy Pounders; one nephew, Craig Pounders; and a great nephew, Luke Pounders.
