Avanell Thornton Barnett Edmondston, 95, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at her daughter’s residence. She was born December 15, 1919 in Iuka to Pete and Grace Thornton. She was a graduate of Iuka High School. Visitation is scheduled for 1 until 3 PM on Saturday, August 1 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Cory Cochran and Rev. Richard Alexander. Wayne Peebles will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Wayne Peebles, Blake Ball, Madison Ball, Jamie Barnett, Brian Grissom, Brandon Grissom, Lewayne Puckett, Phillip Curtis, and Jeremy Curtis. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. She is survived by 3 daughters – Connie Alexander and Pat Scott, both of Muscle Shoals, AL; and Annette Curtis of Waverly, TN; 1 son – Ronnie Barnett (Carrie) of Killen, AL; 1 brother – James N. Thornton of Iuka; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren; and special friends and caregivers, Wayne, Barbara, Anna, and Braylon Peebles, and the Sanders’ children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Grace Thornton; her husbands, Ottie Barnett and William Edmondston; her brothers, Odell, Pedro, and Cecil Thornton; and her sister, Brenda Thornton. Appreciation from the family goes to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Terry True and Dr. Ben Kitchens for her care.
