Delores "Dee Dee" Bledsoe

Delores “Dee Dee” Owen Bledsoe, 91, of Iuka, MS (formerly of Memphis, TN), passed from this life and into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. She was born on December 23, 1921 in Sunflower County, MS. She was raised in Woodland, MS, and lovingly cared for by her mother, Nevada, and her aunt and uncle Ben and Lilly Smith. She moved to Memphis at the time of her marriage and continued to reside there until her move to Iuka, MS in 2002. Upon her moved to Iuka, she moved into assisted living at Southern Magnolia Estates where she resided until her death. She also attended Iuka United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She was blessed with a host of friends, not only in Memphis, but also at Southern Magnolia. She was a member of Leawood Baptist Church where she actively taught ceramics for many years. Dee and Carl enjoyed the company of a host of friends from church who gathered around her table on Sunday nights to enjoy her wonderful cooking combined with much love and laughter. The best description of Dee Dee’s personality was the she was “large and in charge.” Her laughter and smile were infectious, and she will be missed by all of those who had the opportunity to know and love her. A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, TN, officiated by Dr. Charles Fowler, Dr. Ken Story, and Pastor Robert D. Mullins. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers include Rich Bledsoe, Bryan Bledsoe, and Matthew Fry. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include 1 son – Frank Bledsoe of Iuka, MS; 1 daughter – Dianne Bledsoe Fry (Curt) of Germantown, TN; three grandsons and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carl W. Bledsoe; her parents, Nevada and Peyton Owen; and her two sisters, Ruby Mae Owen and Louise Owen Crawford. The family wishes to thank those who so lovingly cared for her during her happy years there, as well as taking care of her every need during her illness. She was so blessed to have been a part of the family and Southern Magnolia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Iuka United Methodist Church at 101 E. Eastport Street, Iuka, MS 38852.
