Howard L. “Son” Tanner, 79, of Cherokee, Alabama, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Helen Keller Hospital. He was a member of Riverton Methodist Church, and was retired from Cherokee Agrichemical, formerly LeRoche Agrichemical, after 25 ½ years of service. He was a member of Vertagreen Masonic Lodge #919 F&AM in Cherokee for 50 years. Visitation is scheduled for 1 until 3 PM on Sunday, August 11 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 PM on Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Bill Boley and Bro. Dwight Rivers. Interment will follow in Douthitt Cemetery. Pallbearers include Lowell Morgan, Jimmy Morgan, Edwin Kasmeier, Harold Riggs, David Donaldson, and Royce Berryman. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cortense W. Tanner of Cherokee, AL; 1 daughter – Deborah Hellums (Mike) of Cherokee, AL; 1 son – Barry Tanner of Iuka; 2 sisters – Barbara Kasmeier (Jim) of Florence, AL and Raedean Berryman of Cherokee, AL; and 1 grandchild – Emilee Tanner Hellums of Huntsville, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Ed and Minnie Tanner; 2 sisters, Virginia Morgan and Ann Donaldson; and a daughter in law, Dale Tanner.
