Cecil Harold Brown, 92, of Iuka, Mississippi, left this world to meet Jesus and his wife of sixty-eight years on April 25, 2013. Mr. Brown was born on February 2, 1921, to Clarence “Farmer” and Beatrice Skinner Brown in Iuka, MS. He graduated from Iuka High School, and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific. Cecil married his long time friend, Lydia Mae Kirk, on November 11, 1944, and was stationed in Bremerton, WA. Following WWII he attended Mississippi State University on the G.I. Bill and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering. His first child, Donnie, was born in Starkville, MS, in 1946. Later, he moved to Tishomingo and taught veterans. His second son, Ronnie, was born in Tishomingo. Mr. Brown moved to Iuka and joined Tishomingo County Electric Power Association in 1952. He served as manager of TCEPA from 1976 until he retired in 1986.
Mr. Brown was a good Christian man and loved his community. He served as a scoutmaster for Iuka Troop 26, was Wood Badge trained, and was a scout leader for Philmont Scout Ranch and two National Jamborees. He was also awarded the Silver Beaver in scouting, which was the highest volunteer award. He was a member of the Iuka School Board and was a volunteer with 4-H clubs. Mr. Brown was a member of the Iuka Rotary Club and was selected as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was greatly involved in the Iuka United Methodist Church as a lay leader and was a conference lay delegate for many years. He served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent, and held many other positions in the church. He was awarded the “Best Friend” award by the Friends of the Iuka Public Library, and loved playing Santa Claus for the children’s Christmas party.
Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 28, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, at the Iuka United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Jon Kaufman. Interment will follow in Snowdown Cemetery. Pallbearers include Anthony Walker, Andrew Walker, Brian Bailey, Dustin Dinsmore, Michael Brown, Ricky Lovelace, Wayne Holly, and Chris Brown. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements.
He is survived by two sons, Donnie Brown (Nancy) of Iuka, MS, and Ronnie Brown (Jane) of Plano, TX; one sister, Frances Lovelace (Buck) of Burnsville, MS; two brothers, Floyd Brown (Bernice) of Orlando, FL, and Glenn Brown of Iuka, MS; five grandchildren, Amy Walker (Anthony) of Guntown, MS, Rebecca Bailey (Brian) of Saltillo, MS, Michael Brown (Charlotte) of Oklahoma City, OK, Julie Dinsmore (Dustin) of Frisco, TX, and Meredith Brown of Plano, TX; and seven great-grandchildren, Houston and Andrew Walker, Emma and Jack Bailey, Susannah and Russell Brown, and Addison Mae Dinsmore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Mae Kirk Brown; his parents, Clarence M. and Beatrice Skinner Brown; and a brother, Clarence Monroe Brown.
