Sandra Lydick Bledsoe, 65, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. Known to most everyone as Sandy, she retired in Washington, D.C. in 1999 after 33 years as a Federal Government Civil Servant. Sandy worked her way up in the government, starting as a GS-2 clerk typist for the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, VA and retiring as a Senior Executive and Financial Manager for the U.S. Courts in D.C. After retirement, she relocated to Iuka, Mississippi with her husband and became active within the Iuka United Methodist Church and the Helpful Samaritan Food Pantry. She was most thankful for her faith and her family. Sandy was dearly loved by everyone who knew her because of her kind ways, loving spirit, and warm beautiful smile. Even in the face of serious illness her love for the Lord grew stronger and her faith was unwavering. She was a tremendous source of inspiration to all who walked with her during her illness. She will be so missed by the countless people who were impacted by her grace and loving kindness. Visitation is scheduled for 4 until 8 PM on Saturday, May 5 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Iuka United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Jon Kaufman and Rev. Ed Temple. Interment will follow in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis at 10 AM on Monday, May 7, 2012. Pallbearers include Roland Griffith, Sr., Roland Griffith, Jr., Kyleigh Griffith, Jonathan Griffith, James Griffith, and Matt Fry. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include her husband, Frank Bledsoe of Iuka; 1 son – Chris Lydick (Emory) of Cary, NC; 2 step sons – Rich Bledsoe (Valerie) of Lakeland, TN and Bryan Bledsoe (Kim) of Longwood, FL; 2 sisters – Nancy Clayton of Kitty Hawk, NC and Cathy Griffith (Roland) of Rexburg, ID; 1 brother – Sam Long, Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC; 1 grandson – Christopher Nash Lydick; and 3 step grandchildren – Hunter, Olivia, and Nathan Bledsoe. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Nash Long, and her mother, Rebecca Clawson Long. Memorial contributions may be made to the Iuka United Methodist Church or the Helpful Samaritan Food Pantry at 101 E. Eastport Street, Iuka, MS 38852.
