Ruth Elizabeth Vess, 87, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Friday, October 7, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. She was a committed Christian and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. She was a retired factory worker, and a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 9, at New Prospect Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time. Services will be officiated by Bro. Doug Christy and Bro. Stanley Magill. Interment will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church. Pallbearers include Leroy Booker, Carl Booker, Daniel Humphries, Ray Walker, Tom Emery, Eddie Walker, Danny Suddith, and Jessie Dexter. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include 3 sons, Donnie Holland (Betty) of Iuka, MS, Jesse “Frank” Vess (Velma) of Golden, MS, and Johnny Vess (Teresa) of Olive Branch, MS; 1 brother, Raymond Walker of Prattville, AL; 4 grandchildren, Donna Moore of Iuka, MS, Jackie Holland of Kossuth, MS, Cindy Humphries of Golden, MS, and Renee Pepin of Southaven, MS; 7 great-grandchildren, Nicki Moore, McKinzie Holland, Addison Holland, Madelyn Holland, Logan Humphries, Jessica Humphries, and Alyssa Suddith; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Kylie Horton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Vess; her parents, Charles Edward and Mattie Dexter Walker; a grandchild, Tabitha Holland; 2 sisters, Virgie Bonds and Sis Booker; and 4 brothers, Roy, Euin, C. E., and Owen Walker. Memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church.
