James Mickel “Cotton” Gattis, 56, of Tishomingo, Mississippi, died Thursday, September 8, 2011, at his residence. He was a former lineman for TVA and logger. He was also a member of the IBEW Local Union #852 in Corinth, MS. He enjoyed fishing and sitting on his porch, and he especially loved his dog, Little Bit. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, at Palestine Community Church and continue until service time on Saturday. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 10, at Palestine Community Church, officiated by Bro. Danny Young. Interment will follow in Palestine Cemetery. Pallbearers include Tommy Durham, Randy Mock, Keith Whitfield, Jason Bobo, Joe Lambert, and Jim Wood. Honorary Pallbearers include Ricky Dean Whitfield and Corey Degraw. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by 3 sons, James M. Gattis, Jr. (Chirel) of Iuka, MS, Paul Gattis (Anna) of Dennis, MS, and Steven Gattis (Lori) of Dennis, MS; 2 sisters, Teresa Whitfield of Tishomingo, MS, and Debbie Whitehead of Iuka, MS; and 9 grandchildren, Morgan Paige Gattis, Hailey Paige Gattis, Steven Cody Gattis, Johnson Reid Gattis, Emma Jewel Gattis, Michael Tyler Gattis, Wade Smith, Brady Smith, and Madison Vasden. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Willard and Betty Sue Mock Gattis.
