Shirley Benson, 72, of Paden, MS (formerly of Pompano Beach, FL), died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at her residence with her family by her side. She started Tae Kwon Doe and the age of 57, and was a second degree black belt in her sixties until her health declined. She was a very talented seamstress, and sewed most of her life. She enjoyed being around all kinds of people, enjoyed children, and enjoyed spending time with her family. Visitation is scheduled for 5 until 7 PM on Saturday, May 28 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 7 PM on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. Jerry Grammer. Cremation will follow. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Survivors include 2 sons – David Benson (Ruth) of Paden, MS and Michael Benson (Brenda) of McHenry, IL; 1 daughter – Candy Johnson (Kevin) of Paden, MS; 2 brothers – Doug Hunter (Linda) of Palms, MI and Bruce Hunter (Esther) of Sherwood, OR; 5 grandchildren – Amy Barthell, Jeremy Benson, Alaric Benson, Connor Johnson, and Destiny Johnson; and 3 great grandchildren – Dominic Barthell, Ava Benson, and Blaire Benson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Benson, Jr., and her parents, Willard and Betty Hunter. The family request that in lieu of standing flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, or to the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Program in Tupelo.
