William “Bill” Mathis, 83, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Monday, December 27, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. He was a member and deacon of Fifth Street Baptist Church, where he also served as Sunday School Superintendant. He was an U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and was a printer for over 60 years. He enjoyed traveling. Visitation is scheduled for 5 until 9 PM on Wednesday, December 29 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Fifth Street Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to service time, and will be officiated by Bro. Tony Curtis. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Adam Humphries, Phillip South, Joey Holt, Cory Mathis, Chris Mathis, and Harold Oliver. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Marquita Greenaway Mathis of Iuka, MS; 3 sons – Kenneth Mathis (Diane) of Iuka; Wayne Mathis (Peggy) of Dennis; and Charles “Chuck” Mathis (Donna) of Iuka; 1 step son – Harold Greenaway of Idaho; 2 step daughters – Susie Holt (Joey) and Cristy Braddock (Matthew), both of Iuka; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lucille Mathis; his first wife, Bernice Mathis; and his brother, Guy Mathis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fifth Street Baptist Church Fund.
