James C. Ledgewood, 81, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Monday, December 13, 2010, at Southern Magnolia Estates in Iuka. He was retired from the U.S. Army and had also served in the Air Force during World War II. While in the Army, SFC Ledgewood fought in the Korean War and was honored with outstanding service medals and awards, including the Purple Heart; Bronze Star with V for Valor; Korean Service Medal with 5 Battle Stars; Good Conduct Medal - 5 Awards; President Unit Citation; Korean President Unit Citation; United Nations Service Medal; American Defense Medal; World War II Victory Medal; and the Japan Occupational Medal. Following his retirement in 1967, Mr. Ledgewood worked for Lockheed in California before starting his 15-year service as a U.S. Marshal. In this capacity he was assigned to guard Patty Hearst during her six-month jury trial. He was also very active in carrying the famous Hell's Angels case to trial, shutting down their methamphetamine factories. He moved back to Iuka in 1985 where he worked at various times with the Iuka Police Department and the Tishomingo County Sheriff's Department. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Iuka Lodge No. 94 F & AM. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 16, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 17, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, officiated by Bro. James Strange. Interment will follow in the Corinth National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers include members of the U.S. Military. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived his wife, Polly Ledgewood; one daughter, Rebecca Ledgewood of Freemont, Cal two step daughters, Rita Hancock of Corinth, MS and Lisa Callens of County, TN; two sisters, Faye Nell Davis and Laura Belle Robinson, both of Iuka; one brother, Verdell Ledgewood of Savannah, TN; a brother-in-law, Odell Bullard of Iuka; two grandchildren, Chris Trantham (Rachel) and Donnie Johnson; one great grandchild, Lauren Trantham; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lum and Erma Ledgewood; three sisters, Louise, Imogene, and Wanda; and a brother, Leroy.
