Edra Mae Whitfield Kay, 93, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Sunday, November 21, 2010, at her Southern Magnolia Estates in Golden, MS. She was born Dec. 14, 1916, to Joseph Louallen Whitfield and Flarra Belle Flurry Whitfield in Tishomingo County. She will be remembered by the park kids of the 50s for the snowballs she made on hot summer days, and by the Iuka High School Band and Beta Club members for the popular angel food cake she baked for countless fund-raising activities. She was employed with Blue Bell in Tishomingo during the 50s and 60s, and with Shoe Mart shoe store. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family gatherings, sewing for her grandchildren, growing vegetables and flowers, and collecting antiques. Another favorite was preparing a large picnic for tailgating at Ole Miss with her husband of 62 years, the late James Harold (Toby) Kay and other family members. Visits with the neighbors, The Park Ladies, special family friends, and members of Harmony United Methodist Church brought her much joy. In recent years, she served others in the community by helping to pack boxes at the Food Depot. She enjoyed the friendship and care of the residents and caregivers of Southern Magnolia Estates in Golden, MS for the past three years.
